okay here's my idea for a new kind of leaf litter post:

linkwalks

inspired by:

i want you to surf the web with me! unlike the lists of links i've posted in the past, linkwalks will describe a particular way of navigating the web, like a specific starting point or a constraint.

i'll share what i find on my walks, and my hope is that you'll share what you find on your walks too!

to start off, let's click some 88x31 buttons!

88x31 button challenge

88x31 button challenge

surf the web, navigating only through 88x31 button links.

(i'm not the only one who's had this idea!)

the next time you're out surfing the web: go click on a wall and take a moment to explore the strange new world in which you arrive.
  1. 1.
  2. 2.

Pick a site and see if you can find its links page.

  3. 3.

Pick a badge (The little rectangular images) you think looks cool and click it.

  4. 4.

A new site will open, then find that site's links, look for another badge and click it!

  5. 5.

Keep going, see how far you can go before you reach a dead end!

(a game: pick a button wall and run the randomizer, then run it again at the next website you land on, and again, etc. how far can you go before you end up on a page with no buttons?)

88x31 journey...

88x31 journey...

starting point: my links page!

dead end!

  • delighted to see an ecology page linked in the site nav

    • i grew up in california, so all the native plant photos make me feel a bit wistful... the poppies!

  • ooh i thought this site was a dead end until i saw this:

There are many secrets
Hang around the not found page.
Inspect the source code!
She hides in the dark.

sephiroth was there

  • so satisfying to dig around

  • cute pixel art!

  • so much great stuff here, visit and explore a while

from here, i can return to my own site, making a nice little loop around the web :)

see you on the next walk 🐛

i used adam's randomizer for my linkwalk!
